Buddy Merrill Biography

Buddy was born in Torrey , Utah . He began playing guitar at age 6 , and by age 11 was playing in a country/western band headed by his father Les Merrill {pictured to the right with Buddy circa 1947} .

Buddy spent nearly 2 decades as "featured guitarist" in the Lawrence Welk Orchestra . He stayed with Lawrence till 1974 when he left to devote himself full time to recording in Hollywood and his deluxe home studio .

Buddy wrote a suite for symphonic orchestra entitled "The Living Sea" . It is now used for film productions in London . Mr. Merrill is a member of ASCAP and his publisher is S&R Music Publishing Company .

Buddy's original treatment of "Busy Bee" , an adaptation of Rimsky-Korsakoff's "Flight of the Bumblebee" , has been used worldwide in television and motion pictures . His composition "Country Capers" was used as the theme song to the B.B.C.'s English television show ... "Country Club" .
